Cleveland County Water (CCW) is seeking applications for the full-time, on-site position of Water Treatment Plant Supervisor/ORC. This role performs difficult skilled technical and administrative work managing the operations and personnel of the water treatment plant, ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements, and other related duties.
Responsibilities Include:
Plans, coordinates, and supervises water plant operations, maintenance, and repair activities.
Assists with the recruitment and selection of division personnel.
Assigns, directs, trains, and inspects and evaluates the work of departmental staff
Oversees regular and preventative maintenance of the water treatment plant, equipment, and facilities.
Ensures that Federal and State water samples are collected and the results reported in a timely manner.
Troubleshoots and performs repairs on all equipment and machinery used for plant operation.
Monitors river flows, raw water pumping system, holding pond, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and finished water production.
Stays abreast of new rules and regulations and best practices applicable to water treatment.
Assists with preparing the annual operating and capital improvement budgets; monitors expenditures.
Receives and responds to citizen inquiries and complaints.
Prepares various reports and other types of correspondence; prepares and maintains files and records.
Conducts safety inspections of water plant.
Serves as the primary Operator in Responsible Charge.
Performs work during emergency, inclement weather, and disaster situations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the following:
principles, practices and equipment of water plant operations
chemical and physical processes involved in the treatment of water
applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, and permitting requirements
Ability to do the following:
plan and supervise assigned personnel
detect flaws in the operation of mechanical equipment and to determine proper remedial measures
solve problems and make decisions within scope of responsibility
read meters, charts, technical manuals, and drawings accurately
prepare detailed reports and maintain records of plant operations
establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, government officials, consultants, inspectors, engineers, associates, and the general public.
Education, Certification, and Experience:
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in engineering, environmental/physical/biological sciences, or related field preferred. Considerable experience in water plant operations, including considerable supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
NC WTFOCB Grade A Surface certification upon hire.
NC Physical/Chemical Certification within 18 months of hire.
Valid driver’s license in the state of North Carolina.
